Develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA child care program(s).  Alexander, Batavia, Le Roy, Pembroke and York locations.


  1. Supports Site Director in management of the school age child care programs for assigned location(s). Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve
  3. Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected. Supports and budgets for healthy eating through coaching, mentoring, and monitoring menu quality
  4. Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
  5. Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
  6. Develops and maintains relationships with state child care licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  7. Provides staff leadership for annual fund raising campaign and committees as assigned.
  8. Maintains proper records/department files.
  9. Organizes special events for parents. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities.
  10. Assists with Program Committee meetings.
  11. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  12. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  13. To promote the physical, intellectual, social, cultural and emotional well-being of the children.
  14. Lead staff in the provision of daily age-appropriate learning and recreational plans and activities. Work with the staff teams and review planned lessons and activities. Develop varied and stimulating program themes.
  15. Ensure regular and timely communication with the Program /Branch Director regarding programming, child and staff issues.
  16. Provide all necessary records, attendance data, lesson plans, and other items as required, by the designated dates.
  • Supervise and motivate staff and volunteers assigned to the day care program.
  • Implement and maintain rules, regulations and standards as stated by the Office of Children and Family Services, the school administration (if applicable), and the GLOW YMCA.
  • Bill Department of Social Services as required.
  • To be on site during the full duration of each program segment.
  • Build enthusiasm for activities and programs. Lead efforts in program and YMCA recruitment and special events.
  • Follow all financial policies and procedures. Monitor the program budget. Ensure adequate supplies for planned programs, food, etc.
  • Ensure room and supply cleanliness and maintenance standards are met.
  • Distribute and collect parent and participant evaluations.
  • Be a role model for staff on following work site requirements regarding customer service, punctuality, appropriate dress, staff meetings, safety, etc.
  • Maintain friendly and professional relationships with children, parents, school and day care partners and other YMCA staff. Project a positive image of the YMCA and the daycare program.
  • Carry out other tasks as assigned.

Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.


  1. One to two years related experience preferred, as a child care aide.
  2. Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law. School Age Child Care Clearance per NYS regulations as required.
  3. Minimum age requirements may apply; for example, minimum age of 21 (define).
  4. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications training within 30 days of hire date.
  5. New Employee Orientation and Child Abuse prevention training within 7 days of hire date.
  6. Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards (if any) and completion of YMCA program specific certifications (list).
  7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.


Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.

Vision, hearing, speech and movement abilities in order to provide safe supervision of children at all times.
